🔌 Twitter’s Algorithm: How To Hack It

Twitter was the first company ever to reveal the code of their algorithm.

Elon 1 - Zuck 0.

Algorithms are the oxygen the modern marketer lives on.

The Plug hates complex algorithm jargon. We love to talk ACTION.

Here’s the key takeaways you can use ASAP:

  1. Replies rule Twitter - If your tweet is optimised for likes, 0.5x. If your tweet is optimised for retweets, 1x. If your tweet is optimised for replies, you get a 13.5x weight. This is insane!

  2. The power of the comment section - If the user clicks into the conversation and replies or just likes a reply, it gives it a 11x weight 😵‍💫

  3. Twitter Blue subscribers get 2-4x the reach - If you ain’t paying, you ain’t playing. 🔌 Plug prediction: 5 years from now, all social media platforms are pay to play.

🔌 Plug Find: We found this comment on Hacker News from Jawns that we love.

“The algorithm favours consistency of content… From a ‘gaming the system point of view’ if you’re a person who intends to primarily tweet about two or three disparate things, you might be better of creating a separate account for each, rather than a single account where engagement is harder to predict

🔌 One of my biggest predictions is that everyone will have multiple social media accounts in the future for this reason. (You’re already seeing this trend around Finsta’s for Gen-Z)

🔌 The Marketers Guide To AutoGPT

Imagine giving Chat-GPT just one goal and it would do all the work for you…

🔌 Well that’s AutoGPT in a nutshell 🤯

Think of the potential future in marketing:

  1. Get my CAC down to $10. Get to work robot.

  2. Find an influencer that is vegan, under 35 and makes pet content. Get to work robot.

What are the main features of AutoGPTs?

  1. Assign any task/goal to be worked on automatically.

  2. Chains together multiple GPT-4s to collaborate on tasks.

  3. Internet access and the ability to read/write files.

  4. Memory to know what has been done.

You can set whatever goal you want to AutoGPT, and it will go on its own autonomous adventure to achieve it – prompting and improving it’s own answers as it goes.

🔌 Plug Test - I got my hands dirty and asked it to build the best marketing newsletter in the world. Watch it build itself tasks, realise them — and then build them again. It’s wild!

🔌 Brand Killing It On TikTok: Cadbury's 6.7 billion views on a TikTok campaign 🔌

We have a tradition at Plug HQ.

Whenever a marketing campaign gets a million views, everyone plays a Millie by Lil Wayne.

If Cadbury's team tried this, it would crash Spotify's servers.

They got 6.7 billion views on their campaign

How can you steal this:

  1. Gamification - it’s like an Easter chocolate version of Pokemon Go.

  2. Pairing Up - They worked alongside Google Maps for their easter egg hunt.

  3. UGC - No billboard. No radio ads. Just UGC baby.
