🔌 How To Hack The TikTok & Reels Algorithm

Omar Raja gets millions of views on TikTok.

He has a hack called “Remixing”.

He takes the same video and keeps remixing it until it eventually bangs.

Here’s what it looked like:

Post 1 - Less than 1K views

Post 2 - Less than 1K views

Post 3 - Less than 1K views

Post 4 - Less than 1K views

Post 5 - 9 million views! 😅

“I’m really harsh on my videos if I believe in it. I’ll take out parts, I’ll re-do the hook” - Omar Raja

🔌 Plug Take -

  1. Delete & Repeat - Omar knows within 10 minutes on Instagram and 1 hour on TikTok whether it will work. E.g. He wants 1000 likes in 5 minutes and 50,000 likes in 20 minutes. If not, he deletes, re-edits, and re-uploads. He keeps tweaking it until it goes viral.

  2. Stop being scared of posting ‘too much’. Post loads - He posts 10-15 times per day and doesn’t believe in posting too much. If it’s good content, it’s good content. He will post the same content with various edits within a few hours of each other. “You can have 2 planes flying at the same time.” - Gary Vee

🔌 How To Hack The YouTube Shorts Algorithm

Oh ya thought the Plug was only going to give you the TikTok and Reels juice?

Get that straw back out.

We’re talking YouTube shorts.

Paddy Galloway studied 3.3 billion views to decode the YouTube Shorts algo.

Here’s what he found:

  1. Length matters - The longer the video, the better chance of performance. There’s a Pareto distribution to the 50-60 second range.

2. Keep them watching - The longer they watch, the more views you get. This also explains why longer videos work better, because people can watch for longer.

🔌 Plug Talk - This reminds me of a recent video by Eric Carmichael. He updated his thumbnail and it went from A to B.

🔌 How To Future Proof Yourself

Here’s a thought the Chief Plug Officer was thinking about over the weekend:

As the cost of software engineering begins to plummet, one thing that is going to become more important: Marketing.

The ability to go from idea to creation is going to get quicker.

This puts bigger importance on marketing.

If everyone can build a product faster than ever, the main bottleneck left is getting people to use it.

Plug Throwback: It reminds me of this iconic tweet from Twitch founder Justin Kan.
